Playing for Kids - They need to music too

Hi and happy September.

Last month I played at a daycare center for a large group of kids. It was SO fun. I brought my critters (stuffed animals) and let the kids take turn holding them during each song. What followed was complete pandemonium. They were extremely excited and were all screaming "me, me" after each song to hold the critters. They got so loud and rowdy that they were separated and taken back to their own classrooms. After that I played softer music for a group of 2-3 year olds and kept the critters in a bag.

What is so great about this experience is that during the large group, a little boy came up to me, hugged me and said "I love you". I said "I love you too" and hugged him back. Then I was surrounded by at least 10 kids. We did a group hug and I almost fell backwards. I was on cloud nine the rest of the day when I left.

I also learned a valuable lesson. Kids are already excited and wound up, so it's not necessary to play the fastest or most fun music to get them going.

They are amazing, adorable little people who will be running our country some day. l love them and hope they are all exposed to as much music as possible.

I have lots of great musician friends who also believe in the incredible joy and healing that music can bring. Most of them improvise like me and are an absolute joy to play along with (and listen to)

I want to give a shout out to Amber Ingraham, who was my web developer for this site. She dedicated hours and hours into it and I am so grateful to her. She did all the photography, videos, website
